It takes two days, weeks, months, etc. to realize what you want to do. It takes a breath…..or two, to not always be judgmental and opinionated. It takes two years or decades to figure out that not everything needs to be rationalized.
When I hit August and see the colors change I feel the inspiration taking a break too. At least a month or two. Light changes though. That slightly different angle how light illuminates subjects can completely change how I perceive things. Without explanation and hesitation I start to see and feel images again.
The change of the season nearing the end of the year is introduced with longer and deeper shadows. Prettier light too. Just observe the leaves and how light comes filtered through. That light my friend, is what photography is all about. Don’t be bothered with genres and gear, just enjoy that light.

Exactly right… its the light. So simple, yet sometimes so easy to forget. Thanks for the thought.
Simplicity is the essence. There is already enough complexity in life, I guess.
Well said! And I especially like the third image with the shadows of the people and the play of lines throughout the photo.
Thank you Sheri.
I agree – the third one is especially striking. 🙂
Thank you. It was not taken in my hometown, but from a previous visit a couple of years ago I knew this place has this potential for an image.
The shot taken from above the square is not only brilliant but also supports everything you say about the light at this time of year.
So true, Calvin. We welcome the light.
I like your pictures, and concept of a good photo. These are all full of extra detail, simply because they’re portrayed in greyscale (Black and White). Beautiful job, interesting photos…
Interesting comment, thank you.
It’s only since i have taken up photography as a hobby (when I retired) that I’ve truly come to appreciate the Light.
It’s magical. Love you B & W images in this post.
I am still to far from my retirement, so I better enjoy the light now. Wonderful light to you, Vicki.
After all there’s “photo” in photography. The same place can totally change in apperance with the course of the sun during the day.
For me it started with Rembrandt, da Vinci, Ingres, Dürer…. the fine arts. They really had a phantastic sense for the lighting.
cheers
Stefan
That is so right Stefan. Appreciating light is really the essence. Light is life.
Fantastic set, Wouter. Nice to see you back, and with such strength and energy in the images. All are great, but I’m partial to the dog walker, with it’s wonderful and unusual use of space and shadow.
I personally agree with you Greg. For me it was certainly the most visual scene I saw. I am quite content with it.
Masterpiece 😀
Cool. I’m glad you like it.
you’re so right about the light, and you made the most of it in this excellent series!
beautiful images, though the top frame is my favorite. What a great use of composition with a wide angle lens. Lots of elements but no clutter and your eye goes straight to the dog walker. Excellent!
I worked most of my life with a wide angle lens. It is how I see and feel, I guess no matter how much I tried differently.
This is my cup of tea:-)
Splendid images, all four! How very lucky we are in our part of the world to have seasons, and the changeable and sometimes challenging light that comes with them. I find it difficult to choose a favourite, they all have their own unique quality. However, if I had to vote, number three would earn an extra point:-)
I totally agree. Witnessing the seasonal changes is wonderful and each season brings different kinds of ideas.
I find this article really inspiring. Especially the word saying “not everything needs to be rationalized”. I these days feel the same after years of studying at university full of logics.
Between the logics that differentiates us and our understandings there is emotion that bounds us too, Hidenori. There is theory to understand the logic and our feelings to practice it.
Hallo. Mijn oog viel op het ‘You may Like’-lijstje in de Reader. Daar stond je naam tussen; en die kwam me bekend voor. Daarna herinnerde ik me dat komt via mijn goede vriend Björn Utpott. Voor zover ik hier heb rondgekeken, maak je prachtige foto’s. Verder kan ik me goed vinden in: Don’t be bothered with genres and gear, just enjoy that light.
I truly enjoy your light that make my October days. I truly adore your light & your perspectives. They blow my mind just as much as I drown in these days of changing light, my friend.
All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
They say something about November rains, but we shouldn’t forget the October days. Just follow the light.
Wouter what a beautiful set of images to highlight your thoughts, I love the first of the bunch
Thank you.
Great post Greyscale in all your shots! Congrats
