Before the battery drained

2009, Photography

A couple of days ago I posted some photographs from a cell phone after the battery of the Sigma DP1 drained suddenly. And here is the last photograph from that particular day from the DP1 before the camera shut off. The RAW photograph was processed in Lightroom and further edited in Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Don’t look

2009, Photography

My son in a moment where he can’t make up his mind between two choices. His autism makes him panic when two options are already too much. Providing him with clear explanations and remaining calm helps him to understand it.

Strijp-S

2009, Photography

Last Saturday I visited my friend Ronald Bunnik in Eindhoven, the Philips city. I was welcomed with great hospitality and took wonderful weather with me to the South of the Netherlands. In Eindhoven we walked to Strijp-S, a former industrial area were Philips produced mostly radios, televisions, and bakelite.

My Sigma DP1 impressions

2009, Photography

Is it fair to write down my impressions of a camera that is already more than a year on the market? Regarded obsolete in terms of technology of today’s standards. I personally think it is. In particular when there is still no serious competition on the market for this camera and the large sensor and the small package makes it an interesting selling point. And as a matter of fact, I believe that this camera will become a classic. I am talking about the Sigma DP1. And with the current price for this camera, it sort of started a second-life.

Some might be fortunate living in a big city, full of great scenes of everyday life to photograph. My town is more a quiet town, but surrounded by beautiful scenery, mostly forest and farmland. I love to do street photography, but I find hardly any possibility to do so here. I do however find a lot of other interesting subjects.

In the meantime I am becoming more familiar with the Sigma DP1. I seem to learn how to adapt the speed (or slowness for others) of this camera, making me think more consciously before I press the shutter. The image quality is second to none for a compact camera in my opinion.

Don’t worry about me not using the Ricoh GX200 anymore. The handling alone makes it fun to use that camera and when I want to have huge depth of field or do something with macro it is still a very good camera.
