Gloomy

A gloomy autumness day in October. Despite the prevailing darkness I still want to see and feel the struggling light. It hurts, my leg. Again after two years. The rain, cold and fog fuel it. I try to defeat it with a long stroll through a nearby forest. Climbing up and down, high trees, hills, river forelands, and covered horizons. Not even captured, nature draws high contrast sketches.

  1. Wouter, sorry my friend. I don’t see gloomy as hard as I try. My eyes and heart fail me. I see signs of Mother Nature struggling for life and the light. I see you struggling for life and the light. Don’t sweat, in an odd way…I’m right there with you……. of course I probably have more concrete around me than you do but what the heck…..

  2. Nature has a way of putting things in perspective. It will let you know if you are sane or not.

Here in the city, things get put into perspective by the buildings, trucks, cars buses etc and people. The difference between the two is that here in the city we are assured that we are not the only one looking for sanity……..

    Peace my friend….

  3. Hi Wouter. I love this series of photos, they are fantastic! I think they would stand out even more with a simple black frame. How do you feel about a virtual frame to showcase your photos online?

Either way, they carry the ‘Wouter’ Signature and I have enjoyed viewing them many times.

    All the best,

    James

    1. Hi James,

I used black frames in the past, but stopped using it since it made the entire picture appear busy. It is that with some images it works, others don’t in my opinion. And I absolutely dislike those “The Photoshop Guy’s” virtual frames resembling real world frames.

  4. Hi Wouter,

I know what you mean, especially with the pretend photo frames. I just meant some kind of simple separation. Take the last photo, it has no edge and bleeds into the website background. Maybe a very slightly darker background would help high contrast photos like these stand out more and keep the viewers eye in the frame?

As I said, even without I do enjoy them. 🙂

    Best,

    James

  5. When you put it like that, it gives a new perspective. Having the negative space without a frame, provokes thoughts of what else is out there and actually works well. I hadn’t thought of it that way. Thanks for your insight, I like it. 🙂

    Best,

    James

  6. I just discovered your blog, and I’m glad I did. I’ll have to come back later and leave more detailed comments, but I wanted to let you know I’m impressed by your work.

  7. I love the way the blacks slowly turn into whites in your pictures. There is a constant sense of fog to them, even when there clearly is none. Hoping to see more of your stuff in the future, regardless of what your latest posts talk about quitting.
