  1. First one is my favorite – love the blurry girl.

It’s funny, for me going out and taking pictures actually ARE my moments of reflection.

    1. For me it is usually a moment of reflection too, but family life is now so hectic (remember my son with autism) that it sometimes feels like I’ve lost grip on the situation.

  2. Hmm, I like especially the 2nd and the last shot. But I think reflection is important, too. So I hope you´ll always have enough time for that. Although this might just be my “idler” way of seeing things…

    1. I totally agree with you, Fabian. I sleep too little, get up early, and need to be focused all the time. But right now there is hardly anytime for personal stuff. It feels like a roller coaster ride again. At times ridiculous, but I know there will always be a time were things become better. I just don’t know when.

  3. those moments are tiny — even when you have all the time in the world. learn to acknowledge them when they come, treasure them, and hopefully capture a glimpse of what once was… they are everywhere.

  4. I sometimes have the same feeling, that feeling that i need to pull the handbrake to stop that speed that I am in.

Shutting down TV, no hectic radio (no advertising) will already give me some slowing down feelings.

Looking at life through a lens is indeed a kind of reflection, but sharing these moments will also increase the time spent on that moment. But that’s a choice I also need to discuss with myself still, Is it enough to take the picture, or do i need to share and discuss it with others? Time that could be spent on other special moments…

    Difficult!

    1. Maybe Ronald, the difficulty is that you describe it as a need. But wonder, do you want to share and discuss moments with others or do you need to share and discuss it?

To be fair and honest. I wonder sometimes too. Did I miss moments while maintaining time on my blog? But than I think of the people I have met. The wonderful and interesting conversation I have had. And these moments are special too. A kind of reflection moment so to say, just like this early moment on Tuesday morning before my kids wake up.

But the balance should always be there.

  5. Looking at your photos reminded me of many hours spent waiting at Utrecht station. On one occasion I was reprimanded by a member of staff for taking a photo of the departure board. 😦 It made me feel at home (being stopped by Community Officers in London).

    Great images.

  6. Grooving on the second and last photos. The strong lines in the second image create a nice effect. And there is something about both the solitude of the gentleman and his boots.

As frequently happens, it is difficult to quantify why I like the images, but I enjoy them ever-so-much regardless.

  7. Hi Wouter… I haven’t posted on your blog yet but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your blog. I’ve been checking it for the past year now and find lots of inspiration in your photographs. You have beautiful photographs and a beautiful family. Thanks…. I look forward to your next post.

  8. We spend so much time travelling and rushing from one place to another so it’s a good idea to try and freeze some of the moments happening around. This is a very interesting series Wouter.

  9. Awesome Wouter – I like them all but if I was forced at gunpoint to pick one I would have to say the last one makes me the most happy. I know I have seen this guy before on trains somewhere. I think this capture is perfect and his shoes are fantastic! This past month I have started taking my camera with me wherever I go. It helps me to freeze the moments I see everyday. Sometimes it even makes me appreciate life just a little bit more for I am taking shots of those things I find special and in an abstract kind of way help me remember everything else that happened around me. But you know one thing about life having it’s ups and downs as you mentioned earlier. Isn’t that the best way to enjoy life. If it was easy all the time we would get bored and not appreciate the good parts as much. 😉 Have a great week Wouter…
