Inspiration(?)

04Jul09

Somehow this month felt like a typical winter to me, despite the availability of light. I think my photography sucks this month, I feel uninspired and have no creativity. And I have hardly been photographing too. Maybe I need a project, theme, or subject to be focused on. So maybe, maybe, do you have an idea for me, do you?

I thought this Olympus PEN story in stop motion was very inspiring.

    Hello Wouter,

fall in love to your children, your wife or drive alone to the seaside. Perhaps it will change your inspiration. If not, buy the digital Pen – or buy it not and sell all other photo gear.
You will see, what will happen – if not – fall in love with yourself and you will see what happens. Nothing!? Okay, nothing. Sometimes there is nothing to do, because nothing have to happen. Just do it. Do nothing. Wait and see.

    All best, titus

    • I won’t push it Titus. Your suggestions are very much welcome. “Wait and see”, is probably the best solution. A new camera project will take some considerable time before I can finance it.

      Cheers,
      Wouter

    Wouter,

You have probably seen it already, but if not I include a link to a Zach Arias video. I think this says it all. We all go through these periods of doubt, uncertainty, lack of drive but something needs to kick start us out of this lethargy.

Your photography is too good to be bogged down and I’m sure withing a few days or weeks the engine will be running sweetly again.

    • Thank you for your comment Richard. I seem to struggle to much with myself currently and have too much doubt about my work.

Zack’s video was absolutely incredible Richard. I mentioned that video in February and Zack even commented on one of my photographs.

By giving it all some rest I got some new love for my little Ricoh camera. I missed the 35mm perspective.

      Many thanks, Wouter

I am glad I am not the only one!!!!!

I go through periods of being creatively becalmed. A desert. A barren land. Then the creativety returns sometimes like a storm. I think ‘off’ periods are required to charge the creative batteries. The creative part of the brain need a rest. I’ve learn’t to relax and see it through and not to force creativety. Something will come along and the spark will become a raging fire. Focus your mind on something else until then. The frustration will go away, its all part of a creative’s life. :-)

    Keep Going.

    Regards

    Chris.

    • I guess you are right Chris. We need the ups and downs. A reset of the brain. And I am glad I am not the only one too.

I kinda know the feeling. Didn’t touch a camera for months.

But that’s the big plus of being a non-pro. You don’t have to shoot, if you don’t feel like it.

For me having a “photography sabbatical” worked out fine. Started a fresh photoblog last week and now I love to pick up the threads of shooting again.

    • How are you Robert. Haven’t seen your work for so long since you left flickr. Your blog looks refreshing and I added it to my blogroll.

Holiday starts soon and I can best leave without expectations. Be open minded and don’t force myself.

      Cheers,
      Wouter
