Small flickr meeting!
Today I had my first flickr meeting. Ronald Bunnik and I made an appointment to photograph together, share experiences and knowledge, and basically have a good time. But most importantly we wanted to swap cameras. He wanted to try the Ricoh GX100, and I wanted to try his Sigma DP1. Unfortunately for Ronald, my GX100 is still at Ricoh. Instead he took his Canon G7 with him.

Ronald Bunnik and I
We met at Appeltern along the River Maas on a hot and humid morning. It was a fantastic oppurtunity to try the Sigma DP1. I will write about my impressions of the camera later, but I have to admit it is a fantastic experience. And a great and tempting camera too. Here below you can see an outing of this morning made with the DP1.

Nice little meeting…Wish I was closer! Two great folks taking pictures in a fantastic day..Looking forward to your DP1 impressions.
Erik.
What a great idea! I’ve got something similar going with some folks with whom I’ve become friends with via Flickr and WordPress. While we don’t live near each other (the U.S., Britain and Taiwan) we are working on a group project with a monthly theme.
I hope your opportunities are as fruitful as I hope ours will be.
hmmm sounds nice, wish I was there!
No kidding, I enjoyed it very much, even if the gx100 was not present, it is always nice to see someone taking pictures and discuss the when and why!
let’s meet again!
You are right Ronald. Let’s meet again! It was great fun, and next time I make sure the Ricoh is with me. But your camera has got me thinking.
Cheers,
Wouter
oh my! you and the DP1… i am still in total awe of the DP1 but not so sure it is suited to me… you may just get a very good price on one (mine) as i think it is perfected for you. in fact, i thought about this (and you) often on holiday… a marriage made in heaven.
also, to let you know — i believe my GRDII has dust. just one spot, but it is huge
It was too short to try everything. Tedious skies with a lot of haze, just left the camera mostly in auto with overexposuring because of all the light. But it was fun and it is great to review the photographs. Which I am doing right now.
I have to talk with my wife concerning the DP1  It feels so great, holding this camera with the hood attached (I guess I would like the VF as well).
But oh no! You’ve got dust too? You and the GRD are so perfect. That is bad!
you would love the VF as well… like i said, i may be willing to part with mine on a nice layaway plan… i am torn. i love love love the pictures it produces but i rarely have the patience to use it. and it needs patience to produce the best it can give…
i hope you’re using the Sigma software as it’s quite possible to restore blown highlights (unlike the Ricohs). it really is a stunning camera in the right hands!
yeah, very bummed about the GRD. it actually may have always been there but i rarely shoot open skies stopped down. depending on my camera shops august hours and Ricohs, i will decide whether i can live with it for another month as most of my photos don’t show the speck (upper right hand corner).
I share the same impression that you need to give this camera time and that it needs patience. I have been practising before with the Sigma software, but it is a pain. You have to use to open the RAW files, and than I save it as a 16 bit TIFF and process it in Lightroom.
It is so compelling.
I really, really, really need to talk with my wife now
Make sure you sent an e-mail to: support@ricohpmmc.com and add some example photographs to your mail. And if you get a reply from Sharon Schadt from the Ricoh Service Team answer that you are a friend of my.
